Every time my parents are over for dinner they end up standing at the kitchen counter and chatting with us as we prepare the meal. It never fails that my mom says something like, “You know it would be really great if you guys had some bar stools right here.”
And my response is always something like this, “Yeah yeah, I know. It’s on the list.”
Well, instead of going out and purchasing some new bar stools, I remembered that we had an old pair out in the garage that just might do the trick. For the past few years we’ve been using them as our painting stools and besides a few paint splatters they are in really good shape. So I decided to give them a new look :)
First, I gave them a good cleaning. Then, I sanded down all of those paint splatters so the finish was smooth again.
I wanted a dark espresso color and at the time this was the darkest brown I could find.
After the first coat was applied I was less than thrilled with the color. It wasn’t the rich espresso I was looking for.
After a quick run to the store to pick up a richer brown, I gave this cute pair another coat and I was HAPPY.
I made the stencil myself with just a quick project in Word ($.00). I originally wanted to do more than just the ‘W’, but I ended up liking the simplicity of it and decided to stop while I was ahead.
Here’s the finished product…They aren’t perfect, but for less than $10 and a personalized touch? I’ll take it!
