Trying to Find My Green Thumb

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Bulbs. Dig, Drop, Done. for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

Do you have a green thumb? I wish I did. I try… kind of. Growing up I was NOT the type to go help my mom plant flowers in the yard, I would rather purchase them from the grocery store and place them in a pretty vase. That was pretty much my attitude until I became a homeowner! Our yard was so terrifying that I decided to spend some time fixing it up. To my surprise, not only did I find gardening fun, it was actually very therapeutic! I loved it! I’ve shown these pictures before but here are the before and after pictures of my first gardening project. This is my tiny garden in the back on our house.

I planted Dahlia bulbs, hydrangeas, and lots of perennials and took out some of the shrubs I didn’t care for. Over the next few months it grew into a beautiful garden. Now here is the big BUT. All of that work happened over 3 years ago and since then we’ve gotten a puppy who decided she wanted to dig up all of the bulbs we planted and eat them. #fail

Now that our Golden Retriever is a little more mature (I can only hope), one of my home goals this year is to spend more time in the garden and beautify it AGAIN! I was really excited when I discovered Dig, Drop, Done. because it has a lot of information and inspiration on bulbs. I used bulbs before and I want to use them again because they are so simple, just dig, drop, and you’re done! My kind of gardening.

Kinda like my friend Marcy here who’s motto is, “I garden when I have time and know a little about bulbs, but I’m hardly an expert”

Like I mentioned before, I don’t have a green thumb and I generally fly by the seat of my pants when it comes to gardening, what bulbs do I plant when? What if I want summer flowers? Those are questions I ask myself daily so you can imagine my excitement when I saw this planting tool on Curb Side Chaos. All you have to do is type in your info and when you want bulbs to bloom and it gives you all the details. Fantastic. It was a little hard to see the color zones and I wish it had more bulb options but here is what I got:

I missed the boat on planting for spring, but I am ready to start fresh for summer blooms. I think?

First of all I would like to say great blog! I had a quick question which I’d like to ask if you don’t mind. I was curious to know how you center yourself and clear your thoughts before writing. I’ve had a hard time clearing my thoughts in getting my ideas out there. I truly do enjoy writing but it just seems like the first 10 to 15 minutes are usually wasted simply just trying to figure out how to begin. Any ideas or tips? Thanks!
