I’m having so much fun decorating for Christmas this year. It’s the first time I have decorated more than just the tree, dining room table and a few little items here and there. And it’s my first time I have EVER decorated a vignette! We don’t have a mantel over our fireplace (even though every year I vow to build one) and I have always wanted to put together a pretty Christmas display in our more formal room. SO are you ready for my first Christmas Vignette?
We tend to put the majority of our Christmas decor in our more formal living room. It’s a room I actually haven’t shown on the blog because it’s been under a very, very slow makeover. Since last Christmas I painted the walls this rich gray color (Storm by Valspar) and naturally the new wall color made me want to completely change the way we have decorated the room in the past for Christmas.
In past years, I’ve used champagne and silvers with a few rustic elements. But this year, after seeing the way my red and white Winter Twig Wreath looked against the gray door I decided to bring some red into the room. It’s definitely a little more casual than I would normally decorate this room, but I think it makes it cozier!
I wrapped a few glass vases in an old knit hat and some felt and then filled them with a mixture of Christmas element: pine cones, ornaments and shredded book pages. The pillars are actually old candle holders that I painted. And do you recognize my little deer? You can learn how to make him here.
I made the NOEL sign using left over plywood, paint and faux cranberries. I love the texture and pop of red it brings to the display. (Tutorial coming soon).
I repurposed an old Book Page Wreath I made last year and gave it a big red burlap bow to fit the season and placed it in an open rustic frame. The mosaic trees are from Target circa 2008 :)
Pine cones are always a great way to bring the outdoors in and bring texture to a space. And these ones are cinnamon scented which makes them that much better!
I’m pretty happy with my FIRST EVER vignette! I think this will be the first of many to come : )
