Thrifted Glider Turned Chic Bench

It’s time for week 2 of the Dog Days of Winter Are Over Series! This week it’s all about turning something old into something new again (tune in tomorrow for the official link party). Last spring, I found this old glider ottoman at the Goodwill for $10. I picked it up on a whim hoping to give it a makeover one day. Well, fast forward 8 months and it is finally done. Whew.

Thrift-It Challenge, goodwill makeovers, repurposed projects, DIY bench, DIY stool, chevron benchI’m not sharing a tutorial for this project because let’s just say it was a big learning experience. I have never worked on a project like this before so it was a ‘learn as I go’ type of situation. There are definitely a lot of things I would do differently next time. While I like the look of the finished project, it’s not perfect. I’m definitely motivated to take on round 2!

I found the chevron fabric at Hobby Lobby, you can find it online here. I paired it with 14″ legs that I spray painted white and topped it off with stainless upholstery nails.

I really enjoyed the Thrift-It challenge because 1) I was able to finish a project that has been on my ‘to-do’ list for 8 months and 2) it was a great learning experience for me and 3) I’m motivated to take on another furniture project!

Be sure to stop by tomorrow to link up your Thrift-It projects!

  12. Love that you changed the base! It really updates the piece and makes it more functional. I will be doing something similar when I don’t need my wingback rocker anymore, so it was great to see how you did this!

I picked up a glider ottoman at my favorite thrift store a few months ago to use as a stepping stool for my dog, Steve, to jump up on our tall bed. Right now he is using it as is and he has got accustomed to the little glide he gets when he jumps on the bed, but my original plan was to re-do the ottoman and make it stationary so Steve doesn’t have to take a little ride every time he jumps on the bed. As a matter of fact I was looking over the ottoman this morning to see what I could do to make it stationary. I have come up with some ideas using the “legs” that are on the ottoman. Hopefully, my plans will work out and I can share pictures with you.

  18. nailhead and chevron, how could you go wrong!!!
