I’ve been making some slow progress on Miss E’s big girl room and today I’m finally sharing one of the projects I’ve been working on. I find myself being SO indecisive about her room design, I know I want light pink and gray, but the rest has been a teeter totter. Why is it so hard to make a decision! hehe. But as of now, I’m going with a vintage/industrial chic look so here two Industrial Chic Pillows I made using some fun fabric from Online Fabric Store.
Over that past few months I’ve been brainstorming how I want this room to look but no matter how much inspiration I gather, I really just need to start playing with tangible pieces to see how it’s all going to fit together. So I took my first step and ordered several different fabrics from Online Fabric Store.
I’ve ordered a lot of fabric online before and this was the first time it came packaged in a really nice roll so it didn’t have any crease lines! I was really impressed. It’s the little things.
Their site is FULL of amazing prints and fabric choices along with great craft supplies. Let me just tell you that I got lost for a few hours just trying to pick out a few fabric choices for my pillows. I wanted everything. I’ve visited my fair share of fabric sites and I have to say that I am really impressed with their offerings. There are so many trendy patterns and beautiful colors. Just be prepared to get sucked in the first time you visit!
I chose 5 different prints that I thought might work in Miss E’s room. Starting from the top 1) Snap Pink Cotton Canvas Fabric 2) French Stamp Onyx in Natural 3) Tynedale in Black & Tan 4) Light Pink Irish Linen Burlap Fabric 5) Black Sultana Burlap
There are SO many different things I could make with these fabrics, but for my first project I decided to pair the black and pink burlap. I love working with different textures and thought these two worked really well together.
I really wanted to give these pillows an abstract/industrial look so I came up with this fun pattern using pieces of gray felt. I just cut 3″ pieces and sewed them together in a over lapping pyramid pattern.
Let me just tell you, this light pink burlap is not like anything you have ever felt. It is so soft! I wouldn’t even consider it a burlap. It is definitely an expensive burlap, but rightfully so. I am mildly obsessed with it. I will definitely be ordering some more!
I made the second pillow in the black burlap and painted a simple ’2 in Bakersville Old Face font to give it an industrial look. The black burlap is more like your typical burlap, it is a little rougher but still a great color to work with.
I’m happy with how my pillows turned out and I can’t wait to start putting more of the room together. More updates coming soon, I promise!
