Chalkboard Print Using Silhouette Sketch Pens

You all know I love my Silhouette Cameo, right?! I mean I don’t hide it. I think I use it every week (if not more) and I am always learning something new! Seriously, I can’t get over everything you can do with it.

Anyway, right now Silhouette is having a huge sale on machines, Designer Studio Software and sketch pens (see below) so I decided to play around with the pens and give you an example of something you can make with them! Did you know you can use the white Silhouette Sketch Pens on black paper to create a chalkboard print? SO AMAZING! You’ll need the designer studio software to do this.

Chalkboard Print Using Silhouette Sketch Pens. Takes 10 minutes!

This project took me like 10-15 minutes and now I have a cute little print for my new vignette (that changes weekly).

I started with this “great love” graphic found in the online store and sized it to fit an 8 X 10 frame. I put a 9 X 11 box around the graphic to make it easy to cut and put in the frame. Then, you’ll want to make sure you click the sketch pen icon on the top row and then click ‘plain’.

Replace your blade with the sketch pen and then load the cutting matt into the machine.

When you hit cut, just make sure to change the settings so the media is set to Silhouette Sketch Pens.

Then cut and you’ll see the pen do all the work.

I’ve noticed that the pens skip A LOT. Do you ever go over the cut again to get what it missed? I understand that at times the imperfect look is wanted, but there are larger areas of skipped ink that would seriously affect other designs where it just added character to this one. (Imagine entire petals missing or choppy from a flower with a simple design)

I honestly haven’t used mine a ton, but I did notice that they skipped a little. You can see in my print that there are a few skips and that is the most that I had. I wonder if you tested it on paper first if that would help get the ball rolling?
